This is my personal favourite way to learn about sales. As a salesperson, we are also customers of other businesses. In any sales transaction, speaking to customer service or spotting any interesting marketing campaign, I always ask myself these questions:
- What are the things they do that make me happy?
- What are the things they do that make me unsatisfied?
- Why do I buy from this shop/salesperson instead of the other options?
After that, you can:
- Analyze their sales process.
- What tactics do they use to close deals?
- What strategies do they use to upsell customers?
- What do they do differently than you?
- Study their customer service
- Follow their social media presence
